The authors behind two of the most authoritative texts on recent Labour Party history are joining the A Very British Sabotage production team, ensuring that the story is told accurately as well as sharing new information with the production team.
Both Alex Nunns and Paul Holden have released statements in support of AVBS.
Joseph Tucker, writer and producer on the AVBS project, said: “Having Alex and Paul aboard is a crucial part of the project. Aside from what they’ve published, there is a lot of great stuff that didn’t make the books, and being able to share research with them will enable new insight to make its way into the public realm.”
“House of Cards but with ideology — this true story lifts the lid on what really went on when an outsider became Leader of the Opposition, and the powers that be decided he had to be stopped.”
Alex Nunns: statement in full
“The extraordinary story of how Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour leadership was sabotaged has long been ripe for a dramatisation, and now it is finally here. MPs striving to make their own party lose, journalists hell bent on destroying a democratic leader, staff throwing spanners in the works — this is the eye-popping tale of a rearguard action by the British establishment to stop the most unlikely candidate for prime minister imaginable, and the grassroots movement he represented. House of Cards but with ideology, this true story lifts the lid on what really went on when an outsider became Leader of the Opposition, and the powers that be decided he had to be stopped.”
“The current malaise of British politics, the genocide in Gaza, and the existential crisis in which the Labour Party finds itself, can only be understood by the fierce and often despicable covert plots to block the success of a left-wing, anti-imperialist politics that, for a brief time, threatened to win power through the ballot box.”
Paul Holden: statement in full
“AVBS will tell the vital and urgent story of how British democracy and left-wing politics was undermined by anti-democratic forces within and without the Labour Party. The current malaise of British politics, the genocide in Gaza, and the existential crisis in which the Labour Party finds itself, can only be understood and explained by the fierce and often despicable covert plots to block the success of a left-wing, anti-imperialist politics that, for a brief time, threatened to win power through the ballot box. I have been pleased to work with Joseph, who has gotten to grips with a vast set of primary materials and a complicated ten year-history, yet has found ways to tell a character-driven narrative that grips, informs and infuriates. His project is informed and underpinned by unique access to the key players and a vast documentary trove, making it an invaluable exercise in telling a misunderstood and misrepresented history in an accessible way.”
